Safe disposal of radioactive waste is technically possible today if the specific properties of the waste are taken into consideration. Environmental protection must be guaranteed without borders. Thus, international cooperation at scientific and political levels is of utmost importance. In Europe, international cooperation in the field of waste disposal is additionally maintained by close contacts between the respective repository operators. The representatives of these companies meet twice a year in order to exchange opinions and report on topical developments concerning repositories within the framework of the so-called "Club of Agencies". The German service company for the construction and operation of waste repositories (DBE - Deutsche Gesellschaft zum Bau- und Betrieb von Endlagern für Abfallstoffe mbH) also attends these meetings.
